Citizenship and Immigration Canada Live-In Caregiver Requirements

 

The following are new requirements that may be required from you as an employer of a foreign Live-In Caregiver. If you are thinking or currently in the processing of employing foreign Live-In Caregiver overseas, the Canadian Embassy may require you to submit the following documents.

 

1.Notice of Assessment for the past two (2) years

2. Medical Certificate, if requiring elderly care or persons with disabilities

3. Birth Certificates, if requiring childcare

4. MLS Listing, if you own a home

5. Floor plan of your home, if you own a home

6. Rental Agreement, if you rent your home

7. Employer Affidavit of how you met your live-in caregiver and why your family needs a live-in caregiver

 

If the Canadian Embassy requires any or all of the above documents, you as an employer must be able to submit the documents required otherwise your foreign Live-In Caregiver's application may be refused due to non-compliance.

 

On December 12, 2009, Citizenship and Immigration Canada Minister Jason Kenney proposed new changes under the Live-In Caregiver Program. One of the proposals was for the Canadian employers of foreign Live-In Caregivers to bear cost of airfare. If this proposal is to take into effect, Canadian employers will be mandatory responsible for cost of airfare.
